Proper lubrication is the single most important factor in servo press longevity. Lubrication failures account for over **40% of premature bearing and gib failures**.
## Oil Selection
**Main shaft and bearings:** ISO VG 68 or VG 100 circulating oil. Recommended: Mobil DTE 26, Shell Tellus S2 M 68.
**Slide gibs:** ISO VG 68 way oil with tackiness additives. Mobil Vactra No. 2, Shell Tonna S3 M 68.
**Gear drives:** ISO VG 220 gear oil. Mobil Gear 600 XP 220.
**Grease points:** NLGI Grade 2 lithium complex grease. Mobilux EP 2.
## Lubrication Intervals
- Centralized system: 0.1-0.5 ml per point every 30-60 minutes of operation
- Manual grease points: every 500 operating hours or monthly
- Oil changes: every 2000 hours or annually
## Oil Analysis Program
Implement quarterly oil sampling. Key parameters: viscosity, water content (<0.1%), particle count, acid number. Oil analysis can predict bearing failures **3-6 months in advance**.
## Common Mistakes
- Using wrong viscosity — too thin causes metal contact, too thick causes churning losses
- Mixing oil brands — different additive packages can react and form sludge
- Ignoring CLS fault alarms — a blocked line means zero lubrication to that point
- Over-greasing — excess grease generates heat and attracts contamination
